Abigail Hawk — An Artist, A Vessel, A Voice
As I joined the video call alongside Jess and Alison—co-founders of equalshuman—I instantly felt the warmth and ease of old friends catching up. Abigail Hawk greeted us from her cozy home, her presence immediately filling the virtual room with a blend of sincerity, humor, and creativity. As the media producer at equalshuman, I’ve had the privilege of speaking to many artists, Abigail’s openness was uniquely refreshing.
“My first voice teacher didn’t clip my wings, she let them go—and that changed the trajectory of my life.”
For most of us, Abigail Hawk is best known as Detective Abigail Baker from Blue Bloods, minutes into our conversation, it became clear she’s so much more. Abigail opened up about the roots of her artistic journey, sharing cherished memories of her early roles, including playing Gretel in The Sound of Music. Her reflections on the supportive mentors who allowed her to explore her voice resonated deeply. “My first voice teacher didn’t clip my wings,” Abigail recounted warmly. “She let them go—and that changed the trajectory of my life.”
As Abigail spoke about her craft, I noticed the genuine humility behind her words. To her, artistry isn’t about imposing her opinions—it’s about listening, absorbing, and channeling experiences with empathy. Her passion shone brightest when discussing complex roles, particularly characters who initially seemed difficult to understand. She explained how portraying such roles with compassion allowed her—and viewers—to recognize the humanity within everyone.
Beyond acting, Abigail shared exciting updates about her future projects, including an upcoming novel she’s passionately writing. Her ambitions felt infectious, making me eager to see her manifest these dreams—an Academy Award nomination, a bestselling book, and more performances that challenge boundaries.
“Dream big. Trust your gut. And stay fearless.”
I was also struck by Abigail’s connection to equalshuman, noting how beautifully her ethos aligns with our mission of storytelling, creativity, and authenticity. Abigail praised the meaningful collaborations she’s had with Jess and Alison, emphasizing how fashion, like art, is deeply personal and expressive. “equalshuman isn’t just a brand—it’s a movement,” says Jess and Alison; upon hearing, Abigail echoes the sentiment.
As our interview wrapped up, I asked Abigail what advice she’d give her younger self. She replied without hesitation, recalling her father’s wise words: “Leave the nest. Do your best. Forget the rest.” Her final encouragement echoed powerfully, not just as advice for emerging artists, but as a reminder to all of us: “Dream big. Trust your gut. And stay fearless.”
